Foreign Strawberry Shortcake Dolls
1991-1992

We may not have realized it at the time, but during 1991-1992 Strawberry Shortcake dolls were being released in other parts of the world besides the United States!   I will honestly tell you that this is something that I have just started to look into, but I thought I would take all of you fellow 1990's Strawberry Shortcake lovers along for the ride with me!

Argentina Strawberry Shortcake (Frutillitas)
"Dulce Hogar" dolls  (sweet home)
In Argentina, Strawberry Shortcake is called "Frutillitas."  Six dolls were released in or around 1991 in Argentina.   They were the same dolls released in 1988 in boxes, only this time they were packaged in cards with furniture  The dolls were Hortensia, Jazmin, Frutillitas, Frambuesita, Clavelina and Fiesta.  They came packaged with either a rocking chair, grandfather clock and "home sweet home" sign, or couch.  The furniture was the same as that released  for the Berry Happy Home in the United States, with the exception of the sign.   These dolls are all from my collection and cost about $35 each.

Obviously from these pictures you can tell why I think these dolls were  made in 1991. Also on the front of the package it says in English "Those Characters from Cleveland, Inc." (Just like the THQ dolls)  However, there is no copyright date anywhere on the packaging.   Since I couldn't stand not knowing what was on the back of the package, I put the words into an online translator and here is what it says (I changed some words around to make it sound more like English)

And at the very bottom in the small print
Here is the "new" Strawberry Shortcake symbol from each card close up for comparison

Canadian Strawberry Shortcake  (Fraisinette)

These dolls are
basically the same as their American 1991 counterpart.   The only difference in them is that on the card, the words are in both English and French.  These were released in Canada.    I am not sure which dolls were produced with both English and French writing on the cards.   All of the Strawberry Shortcake dolls were definitely produced.   I recently spotted a Blueberry Muffin Fraisinette doll on ebay.

Brazilian Strawberry Shortcake (Moranguinoho)

The 1991-1992 dolls from Brazil are not even remotely close in any way  to the American 1991 dolls.  However they were doing their own SSC thing in Brazil during that era and I wanted to give them credit for it!  Here is a list of what was available during those years in Brazil
